1) DRAFT HORSES (OR COLD-BLOODS): Cold-bloods are usually 14.2 hands or taller. They are characterized by feathered legs and a very heavy build.They are so named because their average body temperatures vary only by a few degrees. Cold-bloods include Clydesdales, Brabants, Jutlands and Percherons.

2) HORSES (OR WARM-BLOODS): A warm-blood horse is usually 14.2 hands or taller and are of light to medium build. They are so named because they have a constant body temperature of 99 to 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Almost all riding and harness horses fall into this category. Typically warm-bloods do not have feathers present on their legs.

3) COBS (OR SMALL HORSES): Small horses or cobs have the same characteristics as warm-blood horses, however, they measure 14.2 hands and under.

4) PONIES:Ponies are typically warm-blood equines who are under 13.2 hands. They have small, squarish heads with short ears. The square, boxy head is the main difference between a small horse/cob and a pony.
